For years, the two West African neighbors have been locked in several debates covering a wide range of issues, from sports, music and food. It is the latter matter that US-born music icon Alieune Badara Thiame alias Akon has weighed into.
Speaking during an interview on popular show “Ebro in the Morning”, Akon was asked about the Jollof-Rice debate between Ghana and Nigeria, to which he replied “They can go on arguing about who cooks it better, but non of them can claim ownership of it. We all know Jollof is from Senegal, it’s like two American states competing amongst themselves about who makes the better Pizza, Italy would just sit there and enjoy, they don’t need to get involved, they own Pizza, that’s it with Senegal and Jollof,” he stated.
Akon was born in the United States of America with both parents from Senegal and became a Mega superstar in hip-hop and R&B, releasing three successful albums and numerous collaborations, including some songs with Mbalax king Youssou N’doure and the late king of pop Michael Jackson.
