Djibouti, Eritrea face threats as US-Iran conflict escalates

International crisis groups issue alert warning to Eritrea and Djibouti as Iran, US tension escalates.

The conflict continues to intensify between Iran and the US, nearby African countries of Eritrea and Djibouti could be affected, the United States is backing its ally Saudi Arabia against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

The ICG (International crisis group) issued a warning to the Horn of Africa nations to stay alert.

The USA killed Iran’s most powerful army general in an airstrike on Thursday and Tehran has released a statement in which it vowed to avenge pl Qassem Soleimani’s murder. Mr. Soleimani, 62, was
commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force.

The overnight attack, authorized by President Donald Trump, marked a dramatic escalation in a “shadow war” in the Middle East between Iran and the United States and its allies, principally Israel and Saudi Arabia.
