On its 64th Independence Celebration, Ghana beats Uganda 2-0, Crown Champions of the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations

Two goals from star player Daniel Afriyie Banieh were enough to crown the black star of Ghana champions of the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nation overcoming newcomers, Uganda in the final in Nouakchott, Mauritania yesterday.

The victory which coincides with the 64th Independence celebration of Ghana, brings to total, the fourth Afcon U20 champion title for the Black Star.

Ghana is today celebrating its 64th Independence from Britain. Then Gold Coast, Ghana gained Independence on 6 March 1957, led by Pan African leader, Kwame Nkrumah who highly transformed the country into a republic, with himself as President.

Ahead of the final, Coach Abdul Karim Zitohave revealed that the Black Stars were motivated by the independence anniversary celebration back at home.

In a game highly marked by limited opportunities, two goals from Banieh in each half of the game in which Ghana showed class, experience and effectiveness were sufficient to earn them their fourth trophy in the U20 category.

At the other end, Newcomers Uganda has recorded a sparkling entry in the tournament, progressing into the final just in their first appearance in the competition, trashing strong side Tunisia four (4) -0 in the semi-finals.

Uganda has not appeared on any major CAF final since in the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations where they coincidentally lost to Ghana.

Daniel Afriyie Banieh netted his goals in the 22 and 51 of the game. Ghana last won the title in 2009
