Images of African presidents sleeping in the just concluded first ever Russia –Africa Summit caused indignation as doubts are been caste over the strength and aptitude of the leaders cut in the act.
The first Russia- Africa summit organized last week attracted Leaders from 43 African nations to the southern Russian city of Sochi.
This is not the first time that multiple African leaders have been caught sleeping in high profile so-called global meetings or conferences. A similar uproar imaged in 2015 about the same “presidential sleeping saga”.
Among the leaders found sleeping in the Russia- African Summit includes long-serving Equatorial Guinean dictator, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, and his counterpart Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, embattled Gambian President, Adama Barrow (who is known just for sleeping, and Ghana’s Nana Akufo Addo. All of them received hefty criticism at home and abroad over the issue.
While analysts ridiculously point out to a possible tiring nature of their travel, excess eating of Russian foods, difference in time and bore nature of the speeches delivered on the day as causes of the sleeping, many on social media, however, remain skeptical, and continuously point out to the “lazy nature” of these leaders. The ages of some of the presidents caught sleeping has also been questioned.
