Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya on Friday, October 1, 2021 was sworn in as the transitional leader of Guinea Conakry. The ceremony was attended by several Guinead dignitaries including members of the opposition.
In his speech after taking the oath, the coup leader expressed his desire to guarantee the independence of Guinea and establish good governance. He also tasks the national institutions to play their role effectively.
“I will urge all the transitional bodies that will be put in place to ensure that everyone is concerned, to the effective performance of their missions. It is essential to recall here the important role of our institution, the judicial institution of course. The independence and impartiality of the judiciary is an imperative in order to establish the credibility of our State. I reaffirm the commitment of the National Committee for Rally and Development, on behalf of the people of Guinea,to respect all international commitments ” He stated
The Colonel further reiterated his promise not to participate in the upcoming election at the end of the transition period.
“I would like here to reiterate my commitment that neither I, nor any member of the National Committee for Rally and Development and the organs of the transition, will be candidates in the upcoming elections.” Mamady stated
Guinea’s main opposition leader, Cellou Dalein Jallow who among the dignitaries in the swearing ceremony also expressed confidence in Doumbouya: “We trust him, It was good for him to take this oath”
