The magical Argentine talisman man, Lionel Messi won the Fifa men’s best player of the year 2019 at the Best Fifa Football Award in Milan, beating in the process closest rival Cristiano Ronaldo to add up to the sixth time he is been crown the title.
The 32-year-old is rated as one of the world’s greatest players ever. He has previously, been voted in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and in 2015 as the FIFA men’s best player of the year.
In 58 appearances and in the 4646 minutes played for Barcelona and Argentina combined, Messi, scored 54 goals with 20-goal assist, 2018- 2019.
He led Barcelona to the semi-finals of the Champion’s League and to wining the la Liga 2018-2019 league.
In his reaction to the award, Messi expressed delight for winning the precious award however, he was quick to remind everyone one that collective progress is what matters most to him. “I’m very happy to receive this award. Like I always say, though, individual awards are secondary to me because it is the team that counts”. Messi said.
Cristiano Ronaldo Not Happy
Ronaldo is seemingly not pleased with the lost to Messi. The Portuguese forward wrote few minutes after the awards which he boycotted that “patience and persistence are the two characteristics that differentiate the professional and amateur” He wrote. Earlier, he “snubbed Messi in his own ballot for The Best, while Messi did pay respect to Ronaldo’s great season by listing Ronaldo as his second choice”.
