When news of DJ Arafat’s demise broke a couple of weeks ago, Ivorian music fans and all over Africa were in sadness and shock, such is the level of love he has earned through his music.
Today, he will be laid to rest. The funeral rites are underway for the hugely popular music icon, DJ Arafat, aged 33 died earlier this month following a bad road accident involving a motorcycle he was riding in the Ivorian capital city Abidjan.
According to reports, over 200,000 supporters of the late artists mostly known for his dance coupé-decalé are expected to attend the funeral, which is taking place at the Felix Houphouet Boigny stadium in Abidjan.
The tribute concert taking place at the stadium has attracted some heavyweights in African music. Fally Ipupa, Maître Gims, Davido, Sidiki Diabaté, Koffi Olomide are amongst the stars lined up. The president of Ivory Coast is also expected to attend the funeral ceremony.
