Nigeria bans new Marvel movie, ‘Eternals’ for promoting homosexuality

According to reports from Nigerian media outlets, Marvel’s latest movie themed “Eternals” has been banned by the Nigerian National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) from cinemas across the country.

The reports equally indicated that, the board issued out circulars to major cinemas, directing them to exclude the said movie which was supposed to debut on the 5th of November from their list.

The board has not provided details for the ban; however, it is believed that, the movie was banned due to the promotion of homosexuality which is against Nigerian laws and societal family values.

The “eternals” which is considered the first openly gay movie made by Marvel studio has so far been banned in the Gulf countries.

Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar for instance who have strict laws against LGBTQ practices have banned the movie from their cinemas since its release.

The movie featured movie stars such as, Angelina Jolie, Selma Hayek, Kumal Nanjiani, Gemma Chan Brian Tyree and others.
