Nigeria: Outrage as Saudi club, Al Shabab failed to release Ighalo for AFCON

Football fans have been outraged by Saudi Arabian football club, Al Shabab for stopping Nigeria’s Jude Odion Ighalo from playing at the soon-to-kick-off African Nation Cup 2022 in Cameroon. Ighalo was a top striker at the last AFCON tournament in Egypt and football fans have been earnestly looking forward to seeing him play.

The stoppage was said to be based on contractual grounds. It has been confirmed that Nigeria’s football squad which comprises 25 men are already in Garoua where the Group D games will be played on Wednesday.

The Nigerian Football Federation has confirmed in a statement that Ighalo will not participate in the tournament, “Forward Odion Ighalo is no longer expected as a result of issues with his Saudi Arabian club.”

After Ighalo dropped a cryptic text on his Instagram page which reads, “We plan but God decides”, there has been an outrage by fans against Al Shabab.

On social media, the new development has been greeted with lots of criticisms as they were disappointed with his club for taking a decision that is considered unfavorable and condemnable.
