Nigerian Female Police Officer wins boxing championship

Mary Yetunde Aina, a Nigerian female police officer wins the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) International Super Bantamweight Belt.

Yetunde defeated Laura Pain from the United Kingdom to win the much celebrated tittle. The viral bout was held on Friday at the City Coast Center in Portslade, East Sussex, London.

The country’s Police administration has reacted to her victory. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has eulogized the officer for the show of valor.

In a statement, the Mr. Usman said Aina has made an outstanding mark in the world of boxing by clinching the title. The senior officer also urged sports enthusiasts in the police force to persevere in the area of skill development in the sports arena.

Aina currently serves at the Lagos State Police Command. She has distinguished herself by winning many awards and recognition at the amateur level of boxing where she has also been a referee.
