We recently reported that Nigeria’s President, Mohammadu Buhari traveled to the UK on a medical check-up. The president has come under fierce criticisms for his taste for health needs abroad.
In the wake of the development of his departure, a lot of Nigerians frowned at it considering the fact that about $25 million had been budgeted over the past five years for the Aso Rock state House Clinic since he assumed office. His medical trip came at a time when the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) had just commenced a strike over the non-payment of salaries as well as the poor condition of the medical sector of Nigeria.
Upon President Buhari’s arrival in the United Kingdom, Nigerian activities home and abroad called for a massive protest at the Abuja House in London where he is currently staying . The call came from activists such as Deji Adeyanju, Omoyele Sowore , Reno Omokri and a host of others. Nigerians in their masses also took on various social media platforms especially twitter to decried the medical trips of the president as well as the country’s poor medical services.
Former President Jonathan’s media aide, Reno Omokri, has been leading the ongoing protest with the hashtag #HarrassBuhariOutOfLondon. He tweeted that the mission of the protesters is clear, ” to chase the president back home”.
