Sadio Mane crowned CAF African best player of the year

Despite placing fourth in the Ballon Dior, Sadio Mane was on Tuesday, December 7th, 2019 crowned African best player for the year 2018/2019 at a ceremony held in Egypt. The category was closely contested by his Liverpool teammate, Mohamed Salah and Manchester City’s Riyard Mahrez.

The votes which were casted by head coaches, captains of senior national teams of CAF’S member associations and technical directors saw him emerge as the winner.

The year under review was a very successful year for the Senegalese international. His calendar recorded 31 goals for Liverpool across all competitions.

Moreover, Mane played a major role in the winning of the champion’s league by his football club, Liverpool FC. Additionally, he led his national team to the African cup finals and also helped Liverpool to win their first-ever FIFA club world cup.

In the same year, Sadio Mane was awarded both the champions league and Premier League Golden boots for his excellent performance. This award is a well-deserved one considering the quality of the player involved. If he keeps the consistency at club and national level, Mane could make a great impact in the prestigious world best player awards come next year.
