Supfrica records 100k downloads within 72hrs; with Africa’s 500M mobile users, there’s hope

The newly launched mobile application by the young Sierra Leonean, Hafiz has so far recorded over hundred thousand downloads within a space of 72 hours.

This is a clear sign that Africans have been so ‘hungry’ for a social networking platform developed and owned by an African and are ready to support such initiatives.

According to reports by Global Systems for Mobile Communications (GSMA), out of Africa’s population of 1.3 Billion people, there are 477 million unique mobile subscribers with 272 million internet user population.

With this, it is estimated that the download user base for Supfrica could surge higher in the days, weeks, and months ahead, looking at the rate at which the numbers jumped since the Application went viral.

GSMA also reported that, the mobile industry has contributed a staggering $155 billion to the continent’s GDP in 2019 alone with an estimated increase of $184 by 2024, which makes it a promising area to venture into.

Moreover, mobile phone usage predictions are equally promising for revenue generation in the sector; the number of active SIM connections are expected to hit one billion in 2025 with Subscriber numbers also expected to account for 634 million people.
