After many months of being shut out from the social media space, former president of the United States of America, Donald Trump has launched his own social media platform called Truth Social with which he intends to rival social media giants.
Trump was banned from both Twitter and Facebook for his comment prior to and after his supporters stormed the U. S capitol, ending up in chaos. To worsen everything, the former President went ahead to call the protesters ‘patriots.’
Noteworthy is the fact that Trump was under fire all through his tenure as president. The threat for a ban lasted all through his president. There was accusation and counter accusations ‘inappropriate’ commentaries.
When the U.S was facing the scourge of covid 19 last year, it was reported that, Trump made statements which were against the rules of Facebook and Twitter. Some of his posts were deleted while others were marked as misleading.
‘Less lethal than flu’ statement about covid 19 he made caused a controversy on social media. After he was finally shut out of social media, he and his advisers went on to launch From The Desk of Donald Trump which was considered a blog. Unfortunately, it was shut down permanently soon after it was launched.
According to Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), Truth Social will be rolled out in U.S in the first quarter of 2022. “We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favourite American President has been silenced,” wrote Mr Trump. “Everyone asks me why doesn’t someone stand up to Big Tech? Well, we will be soon!” he added.
