Zimbabwe: Vice President Kembo Mohadi resigns amidst alleged sex scandals

Zimbabwean Vice President, Kembo Mohadi has on Monday, February 1st, 2021 tendered in his resignation letter following reports of alleged sexual scandals. His resignation was announced by the ministry of information and reported by Zimbabwean local media. 

The 70-year old said in a statement that, “I have arrived at this decision not as a sign of cowardice but as a sign of demonstrating great respect to the office of the President.”

He added that, “I have been going through a soul-searching pilgrimage and realized that I need the space to deal with my problem outside the governance chair.” 

Mr. Kembo who was one of the deputies appointed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa has faced intense criticism by the local media for an alleged involvement in sexual escapades with married women. 

He has denied these allegations stating that, he has been accused wrongly. “I’m a victim of information distortion, voice cloning and sponsored spooking and political sabotage.” He said, adding that, he will resort to legal means to get the issue resolved.
